Can you use a ps1 controller on ps2
The fact is, as said, GAME should have supplied a Dualshock (2) but I wouldn't blame them for doing it deliberately. There are probably exceptions and instances where the information isn't correct or not supplied but AFAIK those statements are correct.

In general only very early PS2 games like that and not even all of those from that period were designed to work with the Dualshock (1).Īll PS(One) games can of course be played with it on the PS2. If it says nothing about the controller (eg. it's not designed to work with a Dualshock (1). If it says analogue controller: all buttons it may be compatible but that is down to luck rather than intention ie. If the info on the back of the game box states it is analogue controller: sticks only the original PS Dualshock (1) will not be compatible or at least not fully compatible.

I thought I knew the answer but after just checking through some of my PS2 games the only thing I can say for sure is this:. Sorry to come late to this thread but this may be of interest. Your best bet is to look out for games that use pressure sensitive controls. To my knowlege no one has made a list of every game that for which a Dualshock 2 is essential. Compare these two covers of Okami for e.g: If you name the games I may be able to test some if I own them.Ĭuriously the American/Canadian game box covers mention whether a game is 'pressure sensitive' on the back. Depending on what needs to be done in the game this may be an impassible obstacle. However, I know this game uses some pressure sensitive commands so I might not be able to use them later. To test this I plugged in my Dualshock 1 and started Okami and I didn't have any problems. But I don't think this can be taken as an indication that a Dualshock 1 won't work at all.

There it may mention "analog control compatible: all buttons" which means it makes use of the pressure sensitive buttons only found on the Dualshock 2. The information relating to controllers is found on the back cover of the game box at the bottom. It depends on how the developers programmed the games.
